Annapurna is a range of the Himalayas located in the North-central part of Nepal. The Annapurna range comprises one peak above 8,000 m, thirteen peaks above 7,000 m and sixteen peaks above 6,000 m. Annapurna I is the tenth highest peak of the world with an elevation of 8091 m and also known as one of the deadliest mountains to access.

The word Annapurna donates a mother, who feeds the whole universe. Annapurna state its Sanskrit meaning, ‘The giver of food’, where “Anna” means food and “Purna” meaning complete or full. The majestically beautiful Annapurna Mountain and Annapurna region are named after the ‘mother of feeder’.

  1. Annapurna Base Camp

    Annapurna Base camp lies at an elevation of 4130 m. It is the major attraction site of the Annapurna region. Taking oneself through the lap of the worlds 10th highest peak through the strenuous way carries all the adventure of Annapurna trekking. Annapurna Sanctuary trek is not only a single destination trek because it is like two in one experience. As the way takes you to Macchapuchre Base Camp and then to the Annapurna Base Camp, this trek is a double destination trek in a single package.

    Reaching Annapurna Base Camp is not so easy. Route way to Annapurna Base Camp is quite dangerous due to frequently changing weather. A frequent avalanche is seen on the way from Bamboo to fishtail, which increases the risk on the way. Therefore one should be very careful before conquering the Base Camp. Many trekkers have lost their lives during this trek, due to a lack of proper knowledge about the climate on the way.
     
  2. Annapurna Conservation Area
    Annapurna Conservation Area covers an area of 7629 Km2. It is the largest protected area of Nepal, and was established in 1992 A.D. Annapurna Conservation Area is extended across various districts of Nepal such as Kaski, Myagdi, Manang, Mustang and Lamjung.
    Climatic variation is seen with altitude difference in this region. A moderate climate is experienced at lower hills, temperature varies with an increase in elevation, and the region extends to the cold climatic condition in the upper Himalayas.

    Annapurna region is home to a diverged species of flora and fauna. Vegetational diversity can be seen from hills to the Himalayas, lower altitudes to higher altitudes, moderate climatic condition to extreme and many more. Annapurna Conservation Area is also home to many endangered species like snow leopard, Musk deer, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan argali, Lophophorous (Danphe), Himalayan Monal etc. The region is also blessed with thick chartreuse canopies of rhododendron trees and many medicinal herbs.

    Thorong La pass is a mountain pass in Damodar Himal which lies on the north of Annapurna. Thorong La pass is the world’s highest pass with an elevation of 5416 m. It is the highest point of the Annapurna circuit trek. Two mountains Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang have formed Thorong La pass. This pass is very famous for adventure among trekkers. Thorong La pass trek is a choice to many trekkers loving adventure. It lies on the trail which connects Manang district and Muktinath.  

    Many of the trekkers follow this path of Manang to Muktinath, as it is the safe route to cross the Thorong La pass. One must be very careful about the weather while crossing the pass. The unpredictable climatic conditions such as avalanches, snowstorm affect the route and increase the risk to cross the way. With a lot of ups and downs, the Thorong La pass is the most adventurous part of Annapurna trekking.
