Everest Region (Khumbu)

The Everest region, sheltered by the Mt Everest (8848m), is easily one of the best regions to trekking in Nepal. Popular for the trails that lead to the Everest itself, the Everest or Khumbu region is a major travel destination. The Everest region lies in the northeastern Nepal and borders with the autonomous state of Tibet. Stretching from roughly 2,840 meters to 8,848 meters of altitude, the region is home to the great Everest range, unique Himalayan flora and fauna, and unique Sherpa culture.
Most of the journeys to the Everest region starts with a thrilling flight to Lukla. The diverse landscapes below are a beautiful sight for the eyes of every traveler. From Lukla, the trails head north through a series of Sherpa villages. The Sagarmatha National Park, UNESCO world heritage site, is a gold mine to those who wish to witness the true beauty of the Himalayas. The trails are decorated with peaks such as Cho Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Nuptse (7861m), Pumo Ri (7165m), and the Mt. Everest (8848m) itself. Similarly, the national park also hosts an astounding variety of flora and fauna. The birch, pine, juniper, and rhododendron forests are home to rare animals like red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, Himalayan Thar. Birds like Himalayan Monal, Danphe, blood pheasant, and red-billed chough are some of the avifaunal species. Another highlight of this region is the cultural attraction of the Sherpa inhabitants in villages like Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, Gokyo, Thukla, and Gorakshep. Their culture and lifestyle are intriguing and something one should learn. Adorned with monasteries, Mani walls, Chortens, and prayer flags, the Khumbu region provides a spiritual getaway to travelers walking the paths.

Also, you can also go for Everest Heli tours, mountain flights, expeditions, and peak climbing. Nuptse (7861m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Lhotse (8516m), Cho Oyu (8201m), and the Mt. Everest (8848m) are the prominent expedition options. Likewise, Island Peak (6189m), Lobuche (6119m), and Pokalde Peak (5812m) are the popular peak climbing destinations. Traveling here is favorable during the months of pre-monsoon (February - May) and post-monsoon (September -December). These times bring moderate temperatures, clear skies, and weather and dry trails.
