Mustang Region

Trekking to the Himalayan trail you reach the most beautiful Mustang district also called the desert of Nepal. Crossing the Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, you’ll make your way into Mustang District. Muktinath Temple 

Muktinath is a pilgrimage site and a popular tourist destination situated on the foothill of the Thorong La Pass (5550m). Bordered by the Tibetan Plateau in the north, the destination is sheltered by two of the highest mountains in the world, namely the Annapurna I (8091m) and the Dhaulagiri (8167m). 

It is a famous religious place for both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimage. It is known as a Vishnu Temple. You can witness the 108 water stone taps inside the temple and visit the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Guru Rinpoche at a top of the hill. Jomsom Muktinath trek is an adventurous and religious trek journey, it is because you will experience the greatest Hindu temple along with adventure.

Best time for Jomsom Muktinath trek

March, May and April of the spring season and September, October and November of the autumn season are regarded as the best time to go for the Jomsom Muktinath trek with safari. This season provides majestic views of natural offerings. Apart from this monsoon and winter is not suggested to proceed for the trek, considering trekkers safety and scenic views.

Itinerary of Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m/4265ft)

Overnight at 3 star Hotel

Welcome to the historical Kathmandu City! Upon your arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed by a Himalaya Land Treks’ representative at the airport. He will then escort you to your hotel located at the heart of the city. You’ll meet your trek guide and discuss the itinerary in detail.

Day 2: Preparation and Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today is the trek preparation day. Your trekking guide will assess your equipment and gears to determine if they are good enough to be taken for the trek. Afterward, you’ll embark on a sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu City and observe some of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/2690ft) |6 Hrs

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you’ll embark on a road journey to the west of Kathmandu City. Pokhara is a touristic city that lies almost 200 kilometers west to Kathmandu. You’ll drive along the Trishuli River to reach Pokhara. The scenic drive may last almost 6 hours. Upon arrival, you’ll be escorted to your hotel. Pokhara will welcome you with the magnificent views of Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Annapurna I (8091m).

Day 4: Drive from Pokhara to Tikhedhunga and trek to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft)| 4 hours

After early breakfast at the hotel, you’ll embark on a scenic ride leading from Pokhara to Nayapul . You will cover 42 kilometers distance and cross beautiful Lumle village to Nayapul. The road leading from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga consists of a mostly uphill trek. Once at Tikhedhunga, you can take a brief rest and have your lunch. Afterward, you’ll commence trekking and gradually climb through Lamdawali, Sudame, and Hile villages to reach Ulleri.

Day 5: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2880m/9449ft)| 4 hours

After breakfast, you’ll begin climbing the uphill trail. The trail mostly consists of neatly paved stone steps. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountains and the Annapurna valley while going up. The stone steps lead directly to the village of Ghorepani (2860m) that offers magnificent panorama of Dhaulagiri (8167m), Nilgiri (7061m), and Annapurna massif. You’ll cross Banthanti and Nangethanti villages en route.

Day 6: Trek from Ghorepani to Tatopani (1190m/3904ft) via early morning Poon Hill Hike for Sunrise (3210m/10532ft)|6 hours

You’ll get up early and embark on a short hike towards Poon Hill. Poon Hill is a local landmark that offers some of the most breath-taking panoramas of the mountains. You can enjoy seeing Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna (8091m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Annapurna South (7219m) from here. Afterward, you’ll head down to Ghorepani for breakfast and begin heading down towards Tatopani. The trail goes along the massive Kali Gandaki River on the final part of the trek before settling at Tatopani.

Day 7: Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2110m/6923ft)| 6 hours

After early morning breakfast at the hotel, you’ll commence trekking and ascend gradually on a trail that goes along Kali Gandaki River. You’ll cross a suspension bridge and keep walking over. You’ll walk past the beautiful and one of the largest waterfalls, Rupse Chhahara. From here, you’ll head directly towards Ghasa located at the lower part of the Kali Gandaki Valley.

Day 8: Trek from Ghasa to Marpha (2680m/8793ft)| 5 hours

From Ghasa, the trail ascends uphill. You’ll traverse through the barren road and make way towards Lete Khola. After walking a bit further, you’ll reach Lete village. The trail continues along the Kali Gandaki River and goes to Larjung Village. From here, you will start seeing beautiful apple orchards until Marpha. You can choose to relish the local apples or drink the local apple brandy also called ‘Marpha’.

Day 9: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni (2810m/9219ft)| 5 hours

From Marpha, the trail goes along the rock canyons towards Jomsom. You’ll encounter many under-construction bridges en route. Once at Jomsom Bazaar, you’ll encounter more houses and resorts. The majestic sight of Annapurna I (8091m) dominates the backdrop almost throughout the trail. Leaving Jomsom Bazaar, you’ll continue trekking over the riverbed of Kali Gandaki and head towards Kagbeni. You’ll walk past Ekleybatti village en route. From Kagbeni, you can get some great views of Nilgiri (7061m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), and Tilicho (7134m).

Day 10: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3710m/12172ft)| 6 hours

Leaving Kagbeni, you’ll begin trekking uphill through the rugged terrain towards Muktinath. During the climb, you will enjoy numerous scenic picturesque sights of the nearby mountains including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). The path climbs steeply to re-join the main trail leading to Khingar and goes until Jharkot Village. After walking a bit further, you’ll reach Muktinath.

Day 11: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2710m/8891ft)| 6 hours

Muktinath is one of the most revered sits in the world. Also known as the Mukti-Kshetra, it serves as the pilgrimage to both Hindu and Buddhists. You will encounter many Nepalese, Indian, and foreigners thronging the area. You will visit the main temple and witness the 108 stone taps. The pilgrims take shower under each tap to cleanse their sins. Afterward, you can visit the landmark site of Guru Rinpoche atop the hill. The trek ends with a short trek to Jomsom Bazaar. You can also choose to take a local commute back to Jomsom that may last almost 1hr.

Day 12: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (820m/2690ft)

You’ll bid adieu to Mustang as you embark on a morning flight back to Pokhara. The flight takes off at Jomsom and goes over Annapurna massif all the way back to Pokhara. You can catch the pristine aerial sights of the entire Annapurna and Nilgiri ranges from the flight. Once a Pokhara, you’ll be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 13: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu | Farewell Dinner | (1300m/4265ft)

6-7 hrs

Today, you’ll bid farewell to Pokhara. You’ll embark on a scenic road journey back to Kathmandu that may last almost 6hr. You can catch the beautiful sights of massive rivers, colorful towns, and lushly forested hills en route. Once in Kathmandu, head to the hotel and rest. You can also look for souvenirs in the local markets in the city. At the end of the day, you will partake on a farewell dinner hosted by the Himalaya Land Treks.

Day 14: Final Departure

Breakfast

The last day of the trip, you’ll enjoy your breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, you’ll embark on a short journey towards the airport to catch your flight back home. You can choose to indulge in last-minute shopping before heading to the airport.
