The Tamang Heritage trail trek in Nepal is an insight into the incredible culture and tradition of the Tamang community. This trek is a marvellous cultural trekking experience in the northern Himalayas of Nepal. Taking over the heritage site, the glacier land-Langtang offers marvellous mountain views. Langtang valley trek is trekking on nature, viewing nature from nature. Tamang Heritage trekking gives to experience the taste of unique culture and tradition.

The Tamang Heritage Trek by the Himalaya Land Treks is community-based trekking that lays between the Ganesh Himal and Langtang ranges. The 10 days Tamang Heritage trek starts on your arrival to Kathmandu. The trip is a less explored and culturally rich trekking destination of Nepal in the Rasuwa district. Major Attractions In Tamang Heritage Trek 

Langtang Valley

The trek takes you to the most beautiful valley of Nepal, Langtang Valley. The valley is blessed with many natural resources. It is also known as the valley of a glacier. With ethnic Tamang people, this region is very famous for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. The Langtang Valley is also home to many ethnic Tibetan Buddhists. 

As such, Tibetan Buddhism and its influence can be amply found throughout the valley. Through the Tamang Heritage Trail, you also get to visit ancient Buddhist Monastries that have great religious importance. Langtang is famous for the Kyanjin Gompa- a Buddhist monastery that is situated beneath the Langtang Lirung Mountain

Ethnic Tamang Villages

Tamang heritage trek takes you to the beautifully decorated ethnic villages woven by the tread of unity on the green textile of nature. These villages are covered with the beauty of the Himalayas, lush green forests, blooming rhododendrons and many more.

We drive to Sybrubensi from where we begin our trek. We get to explore many ethnic villages, explore their way of living and their tradition. We explore the Tamang villages of Gatlang, Tatopani, Nagthali Ghyang, Thuman, Timure, and Buddhism. We walk to Gatlang village from Sybrubensi. 

Learn unique Tamang culture

The Tamang community has its cultural importance. The Tamang villages let us explore the enormous culture and traditions, arts and lifestyle, and history and architecture. They own their language, Costume, and social structure. 

They have unique food during festivals. They follow their unique rituals from birth to death. There are long lists of rituals they follow from birth to death. Trek to Tamang Heritage is a golden opportunity to explore and learn Tamang culture and tradition from the native.

Langtang National Park

The valley is also blessed with rare flora and fauna. You can spot endangered species during the trek so close to yourself. Endangered species like Red Panda, Musk Deer, and the Himalayan Thar can be spotted on the way.

 Along with these species, many important herbal and medicinal plants can be spotted throughout the way of National Park. Langtang national park is not only about flora and fauna. It is a home that has preserved the whole biodiversity of that particular region.

Best time for Tamang Heritage trek

Spring (February- May) and autumn (September – December) is the best time to do Tamang Heritage Trek. It is also approachable in other seasons depending on the conditions. The occasion of Tamang New Year “Loshar” in February will also be the best time to learn their culture and explore more about this unique tradition.

Itinerary of Tamang Heritage Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu, 1300m/4265ft

Overnight at 3 star Hotel

On your arrival in the Tribhuvan International airport (TIA), our representative from Himalaya Land Treks will meet you and then you will be transferred to your confirmed hotel. After checking in the hotel, you can relax and may visit around the city streets to experience the amazing ambiance. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi, 1503m/4931ft, 4-5 hrs

We drive to the starting point of trekking today. Driving from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi on a scenic mountain road takes us around 8 hours. Before we reach the beautiful and small town of Sybrubensi, we can enjoy the rural beauty of Nepal. Once we reach Sybrubensi, we can explore the town. The beautiful town of Rasuwa district welcomes with amazing hospitality and food. Overnight stay in Sybrubensi.

Day 3: Trek from Sybrubensi to Gatlang, 2238m/7343ft, 5-6 hrs

We begin our trek with the steady climb up to the viewpoint and achieve the panorama of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung range. Then we climb down to the Goljung valley that is about an hour decent for the lunch stop. Passing various rural settlements, we reach the picturesque Tamang Village at Gatlang situated at the hillside. Gatlang offers exploration of incredible Tamang culture and tradition. Overnight stay at Gatlang.

Day 4: Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani, 2607m/8553ft, 5-6 hrs

Today we are trekking to Tatopani. Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here by the Bhotekoshi River. After crossing the steel bridge and the romantic date with the Langtang range, we walk further towards Tatopani. At Tatopani, we can bath at the natural hot spring, which is also believed as the remedy of various skin diseases and to clean ourselves. Overnight stay at Tatopani.

Day 5: Trek from Tatopani to Thuman, 2338m/7671ft | via Nagthali Ghyang, 3165m/10384ft, 4-5 hrs

Starting with a long walk today, we arrive at Nagthali village, which is popular for the meditation center for Buddhist devotees. Then we cross the Nagthali Peak (3165m) which is the highest area around here. Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Sanjen ranges are visible from Nagthali. Then we gradually trek down to Thuman, a village, which is influenced by the Tibetan cultures. The traditional village is filled with monasteries. Overnight stay at Nagthali Ghyang.

Day 6: Trek from Thuman to Timure, 1762m/5781ft and explore to Rasuwagadhi, 1814m/5951ft, 5-6 Hrs

The journey continues as we descends to Timure village. After a short rest, we hike around the historical war place at Rasuwagadhi. It is situated just south of the Nepal-Tibet border. The fort has a great history and boasts ancient ruins and historical and archaeological sites as well. Then, we trace down to Timure village and we rest there. Overnight stay at Timure.

Day 7: Trek from Timure to Briddhim, 2229m/7313ft, 5-6 hrs

It is a continuous walk through our national flower forest Rhododendron. We then trek down at Tamang village at Briddhim, which is influenced by the Tibetan tradition and culture. The village with more than 50 houses has a monastery named Dukchu. You can also learn about the great history and tradition of Briddhim from the local inhabitants. We spend the night in Briddhim with warm hospitality and smiles.

Day 8: Trek from Briddhim to Sybrubensi, 1503m/4931ft, 5-6 hrs

We head to Sybrubensi today marching our trail down from Briddhim. Trekking along the gradual descent through the forests, we cross the waterfalls and suspension bridges and make our way to the town of Sybrubensi. This last day of our trek is through the beautiful villages and settlements. Overnight stay in Sybrubensi.

Day 9: Drive from Sybrubensi to Kathmandu by private vehicle, 1300m/4265ft, 5-6 hrs | Farewell Dinner

Another different perspective on the mountain road is on the way today as we drive back to the Kathmandu on the same road. We reach Kathmandu reach hotels and have some relaxing time. In the last day in Kathmandu, you can celebrate the trip with drinks in the happening environment of Thamel. Himalaya Land Treks will host a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful end of the trip.

Day 10: Departure from Kathmandu


Our company representative drops you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) before your scheduled flight time. We take you in a private vehicle with all your backpacks letting you time to explore the city before departure. We wave you farewell and good wishes for the further journey. We look forward to serving you again in your next visit to the Himalayas.

  • Socks: thick wool blend and thin cotton to be worn in combination - ensure boots fit such combination
