What is the best time for Annapurna base camp short trek?

Spring (February- May) is the best time to do short Annapurna base camp trekking. The autumn period (September – December) is also a good time to make this trek. You can make your trail towards Annapurna Base Camp trekking in any period throughout the year except monsoon. As monsoon makes the path slippery and weather doesn’t seem to be fine during this season which is unfavourable to your trekking journey.

Itinerary of Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m/4265ft)

Overnight at 3 star Hotel

You may arrive in Kathmandu at any time. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by a Himalaya Land Treks representative who will be there to escort you to your Hotel. There are no planned activities for the day, thus you may check into your Hotel and relax. Overnight stay at the Hotel in Kathmandu.

Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m/4265ft)

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/2690ft), 6-7 Hrs

6-7 hrs
Overnight at 3 star Hotel

Today, you will have a leisurely and enjoyable drive to Pokhara. The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours and goes along the Trishuli River past farmlands and terraced fields of barley and mustard. As you approach Pokhara, you can catch your first glimpses of the Annapurna Mountains and Mt. Machhapuchhre (6997m). Overnight stay at the Hotel in Pokhara.

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/2690ft), 6-7 Hrs

Day 3: Drive from Pokhara to Kilyu| 3 Hrs, Trek to Chhomrong (2170m/7119ft)| 3 Hrs

From Pokhara, after breakfast, you will have a drive to the small ethnic settlement of Kilyu. The drive meanders along the valley and gives you good views of the gaping river gorges and verdant hills with green pastures. The views of the Annapurna peaks also decorate the skyline. From Kilyu, you will then begin your trekking towards Chhomrong, a renowned village that is situated along the bamboo woods. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Chhomrong.

Drive from Pokhara to Kilyu| 3 Hrs, Trek to Chhomrong (2170m/7119ft)| 3 Hrs

Day 4: Trek from Chhomrong to Himalaya (2920m/9580ft), 5-6 Hrs

From Chhomrong, you will have another relatively easy up-and-downhill trek to today's destination called Himalaya. The trek is filled with mesmerizing views of peaks like the Machhapuchhre (6997m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Gangapurna (7454m) and many others. The natural ambiance of peace and isolation that the woods provide also elevate the trekking journey. The terrain is blessed with amazing floral acreages and wide pasturelands. Overnight stay at the guest house at Himalaya.

Trek from Chhomrong to Himalaya (2920m/9580ft), 5-6 Hrs

Day 5: Trek from Himalaya to MBC (3700m/12139ft), 5-6 Hrs

Today, you will make your way to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp, which, in general terms, isn't a base camp as climbing the Machhapuchhre Mountain (6997m) is prohibited. The trek to MBC from Himalaya lets you take in the changing terrain that goes from verdant greens to rock obliques and snowy vast lands. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at MBC.

Trek from Himalaya to MBC (3700m/12139ft), 5-6 Hrs

Day 6: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m/13550ft) Excursion and Back to Sinuwa (2360m/7743ft)|4-5 Hrs

From Machhapuchhre Base Camp, you will finally make your way to the Annapurna Base Camp today, trekking along the vast snowy terrain with the views of peaks like the Hiunchuli and the Dhaulagiri keeping you company. Upon reaching the base camp, you can enjoy the brilliant snowy environment and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. Taking in the beautiful ambiance of the base camp, you will then make your way back towards the village of Sinuwa. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Sinuwa.

Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m/13550ft) Excursion and Back to Sinuwa (2360m/7743ft)|4-5 Hrs

Day 7: Trek back to Kilyu from Sinuwa, 2-3 Hrs and Drive back Pokhara (820m/2690ft)|3 Hrs

Overnight at 3 star Hotel

From Sinuwa, you will have a beautiful trekking journey back towards the village of Kilyu, following the same trail as before. The journey down-hill is relatively easier and the peaceful environment makes trekking all the more pleasant. From Kilyu, you will then have a drive back towards Pokhara. Overnight stay at the hotel in Pokhara.

Trek back to Kilyu from Sinuwa, 2-3 Hrs and Drive back Pokhara (820m/2690ft)|3 Hrs

Day 8: Drive back to Kathmandu | Farewell Dinner | (1300m/4265ft), 6-7 Hrs

Breakfast/Farewell Dinner

Today, you will bid the Annapurna mountains goodbye for the last time as you drive back to Kathmandu. The drive follows the same route as before and you can say your farewell to the mountains as you leave the Pokhara valley. In Kathmandu, you can shop for souvenirs and explore the local streets for the rest of the day. At the end of day, you can participate in a farewell dinner hosted by the Himalaya Land Treks. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 9: Departure from Nepal


Approximately three hours before your scheduled flight, you will be dropped off at the airport for your final departure from Nepal.
