The Poon Hill Sunrise Trek is a beautiful short trek that presents the best features of the amazing Annapurna region. It is an easy trekking journey that lets you experience the Himalayas of the Annapurna nearby without an extensive trekking journey up the mountains. Home of the Annapurna Mountains Range and peaks like the Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m), the Annapurna region is one of the most-visited regions of Nepal. The mountain peaks are towering over the valley and decorating the skyline in a magnificent display of ivory allure. From the gorgeous lake-side city, you trek through wonderful trekking trails that wind across the valley's lush acreages of woodlands and terrace farms to ethnic settlements on Himalayan foothills and ridgelines. From here you are presented with breath-taking views of the Annapurna range like the Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchhre (6997m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Gangapurna (7454m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and the Pisang Peak (6091m) among others.

The best time for poon hill sunrise trek is during autumn and spring. Pre-monsoon and post-monsoon are always preferred. As monsoon makes the trial route slippery and difficult it is better not to trek during this season. Regarding scenic views, the season of autumn and spring are the best. The Poon Hill Sunrise Short Trek is a moderate trekking journey. There is no need to have any prior trekking experience to do it.

Itinerary of Short Poon Hill Sunrise Trek

Day 1: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1070m/3510ft), 1 ½ Hrs, Trek to Ulleri (1960m/6430ft), 4 Hrs

The trek with the Himalaya Land Treks begins with a drive from the lake-side city of Pokhara to Nayapul. The drive takes about one and a half hours and along the journey, you can enjoy the glimpses of Pokhara Valley's terrace farms and amazing woodlands that are vibrant with foliage. From Nayapul, you will begin your trek to the village of Ulleri from where the views of the Annapurna I (8091m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m) are amazing. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Ulleri.

Day 2: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2880m/9449ft)|3-4 Hrs

From Ulleri, you will begin your trek to the famous village of Ghorepani. It is a typical Gurung settlement on a ridge by the hillside that presents amazing wide views of peaks like the Gangapurna (7454m) and Hiunchuli (6441m) from its narrow cobble-stoned paths divided by traditional houses. The trekking trail goes through the lush forest of rhododendron to reach Ghorepani. Overnights stay at the guesthouse at Ghorepani.

Day 3: Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3210m/10532ft) for Sunrise 1 Hrs and Trek to Tadapani (2630m/8629ft) via Deurali|4 - 5 Hr

From Ghorepani, you will make your way to the vantage point of Poon Hill to witness the mesmerizing sunrise amidst the Annapurna Mountain Peaks. The trek is done early and you will be traversing uphill towards the vantage point. After experiencing the sunrise views at Poon Hill, you will make your way back to Ghorepani and then to Tadapani- another renowned village that presents breath-taking views of the mountain peaks. You will be passing the village of Deurali along the way, making your way along the woodlands of pine and cedar and crossing juniper hamlets. Overnights stay at the guesthouse at Tadapani.

Day 4: Trek to Ghandruk (1960m/6430ft)|3-4 Hrs and drive to Pokhara (820m/2690ft) | Farewell Dinner

From Tadapani, you will make your way to Ghandruk, trekking along the same ridgeline and through the woods. Ghandruk is the second largest Gurung village in Nepal and offers a surreal mix of ethnic Gurung culture and Annapurna Himalayas. From Ghandruk, you will then drive back to Pokhara, enjoying the valley's many natural attributes along the way. At the end of the day, you will indulge in a farewell dinner hosted by the Himalaya Land Treks. Overnights stay at the hotel in Pokhara.
