Mount Kilimanjaro Machame Route

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our friendly guide will greet you and escort you to your hotel in Moshi. Take this time to relax, settle in, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Enjoy a delicious dinner and get a good night's rest to start your journey refreshed.

After a satisfying breakfast, we depart Moshi and head to Machame Gate. Here, we complete the necessary registration procedures before commencing our hike. As you ascend through the enchanting rainforest, surrounded by verdant foliage, listen to the symphony of exotic birds and immerse yourself in nature's tranquility. A picnic lunch is provided en route to Machame Camp, where you will spend the night. Savor a hearty dinner before retiring to your comfortable tent.

Begin your day with a nourishing breakfast and embark on a one-hour climb through the top forest, gradually gaining altitude. The initial section may be steep, but the stunning views and the sense of accomplishment make it worthwhile. Along the trail, you will turn westward, entering a picturesque river gorge. Indulge in a picnic lunch as you continue hiking, eventually reaching the breathtaking Shira Campsite. Here, you will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Greet the morning with breakfast, pack your belongings, and set off towards the east, ascending a ridge that leads to the peak of Kibo. As you continue on your journey, the direction changes to the southeast, guiding you to the striking Lava Tower. A hot lunch is served along the trail to replenish your energy. After passing the Arrow Glacier, descend to the Barranco Camp, where a sumptuous dinner awaits. Rest well, surrounded by the magnificence of the mountain.

Following breakfast, leave Barranco Camp and ascend a steep ridge, surpassing the renowned Barranco Wall. The hike leads you to the Karanga Valley campsite, offering stunning views and providing an essential day for acclimatization. Enjoy dinner amidst the serenity of the surroundings, preparing your mind and body for the final push towards the summit.

After a nourishing breakfast, continue your journey, joining the junction that connects with the Mweka trail. As you ascend, you'll complete the South Circuit, providing remarkable panoramic views of the summit from various angles. Arriving at Barafu Camp, take the time to rest and refuel with a delicious dinner. Prepare for the exhilarating summit bid that awaits you.

At approximately 1 a.m., commence your ascent to the summit. The path demands perseverance and determination as you progress step by step towards your goal. After approximately 6-8 hours, you will reach the crater rim, where the iconic sign for Stella Point awaits you. Reaching Stella Point is a momentous achievement, but it's important to remember that it's not the summit of Kilimanjaro. From there, you will continue along the crater rim for another 156 meters of altitude to reach the ultimate pinnacle of Uhuru Peak. Take a well-deserved rest at Stella Point, savoring a cup of hot tea or chocolate to replenish your energy.

Standing atop Uhuru Peak, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama that stretches as far as the eye can see. The sense of accomplishment and the awe-inspiring views make the challenging journey all the more worthwhile. Capture this incredible moment with photographs and create memories that will last a lifetime.

After reveling in your triumph, begin your descent towards Mweka Camp, located approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles) away. The descent allows you to witness different landscapes, transitioning from the alpine desert to the lush rainforest once again. Upon reaching Mweka Camp, you'll be greeted with a well-deserved dinner and have the opportunity to rest, reflecting on your extraordinary adventure.

On the final day of your trek, savor a delicious breakfast before continuing your descent through the magnificent Mweka rainforest. Keep your gaiters and trekking poles handy to navigate the varied terrain. Upon arriving at the Mweka Park Gate, you'll receive your well-earned summit certificates as a testament to your accomplishment. From there, a vehicle will transport you back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can enjoy a refreshing shower and celebrate your successful Kilimanjaro expedition with a final dinner.
