COVID-19 new variant 2021: Risk, Symptoms and Precautions !

Just after a year of the first wave, the second wave made its outburst with even more strength of infecting. Viruses own the potential to get mutated with an increase in their spread. This potential of the virus to change itself genetically gives rise to the new variant. As a result, the mutated strain began a second wave. COVID-19 came back with more strength of infection and affecting more severely.

Many countries from south Asia and Europe are highly affected by new variant of COVID-19. The data is still unclear up to where the second wave has reached. Each day the rate of infection is moving up in exponential form. Attenuating log phase of the rate of infection the virus is challenging with death rate too.

Age group affected by a new variant

The mutated variant is different from the first wave. The first wave was infectious to ill, old aged or people with low immune capability. But the new mutated variant of COVID-19 came up affecting young youths more. People between the ages of 20-44 are affected more by the second wave.

Risk and infecting mechanism of mutated COVID-19 variant

The new variant has come up with mutation in the spike protein of SARS-COVID-2. This SARS-CoV-2 is the same virus that causes COVID-19. The coronavirus takes its way into human cells using the spike proteins, which clasps on the human cell and inserts inside the cell through the various nasopharyngeal cavity.

This virus uses its spike protein to anchor to the receptor protein on the human cells and infects them. After inserting inside the cell it starts to divide rapidly increasing its number. The lungs cells are more affected by the virus which is causing a lack of oxygen in the body. The second wave has shown to damage both lungs and heart.

    Symptoms of new COVID-19 variant

The mutated variant shows the following symptoms after infection:

    • High fever
    • Cough
    • Common cold
    • Loss in sense of smell and taste

    Conclusion

The fear of COVID has increased more than the rate of infection. The risk of infection and death might or might not end up. But what we can do is prevent. Following a proper way of prevention is the only way to manage the virus infection.

Hence, it is time to use wisdom overpower. Nothing is greater than nature and no one can go beyond nature. So, it is a humble request to every human to stay safe and follow the precautions to prevent viruses until the situation clams down.
